Third time’s the charm. This past Sunday, the Halliday’s raced in the Sherbrooke S:Triman triathlon. My dad and I raced the sprint triathlon, while my sister took part in the U15 race.
Race Day

Let’s not sugar coat it, Sunday was a tough day. We woke up at 4am to pack our bikes onto the car and drive two hours to the site. With an 8am start for the sprint race, we just had enough time to setup our transition zone and do a quick warm up. The water temperature was alright, and the majority of the swim was with the current and so it felt very fast. With the exception of a few very fast swimmers, I led a very strung out pack into the first transition.

The bike was very nice. Smooth and relatively flat roads made for blazing fast times. Other than a nice skid around one of the U-turn’s, I felt in control and strong!

My run was good, I made sure to secure and hold third place. The course was great as well. Meeting up with the bike course before dropping back down to the water, the scenic bike path almost made me forget about the relentless pounding of my shins!

Overall I finished in third, which I am very happy with. My times were very good. After grabbing some food, I got set up to take photos of my sister’s race and cheer her on.
The rest of the month…
Next race is in the Old Port on the 29th of June. A whole two weeks away! I will be enjoying training with a guest elite athlete from the Dominican Republic, Kevin Martinez, for the next month or so. I can’t wait to get out of town for some nice country road rides.
My dad placed third in his age category!
